School Board

Background: Hillsborough County, like many other school boards across the nation, has increasingly embraced an agenda that undermines parental rights and promotes lifestyles that are contrary to Christian values. We believe it is essential to address this concerning trend and safeguard the well-being of our children.

In recent years, curriculums have been subtly influenced by ideologies that contradict biblical teachings. However, the audacity of this agenda has now become apparent, raising awareness among parents that our public school systems (and sometimes even private ones) are being utilized as political tools to disrupt the fundamental institution of the family. It is distressing to witness a narrative that encourages children to deceive their parents and perceive teachers and staff as the primary sources of protection and guidance. (Teacher's edition curriculums are a major source of this ideology.) 

At the heart of our concerns lies the preservation of parental rights and the assurance that our children learn the fundamental building blocks of education, such as math and reading, rather than allocating excessive time to emotional socialization. (SEL) The once subtle promotion of ideologies such as white supremacy, victim rights, untraditional family lifestyles, and transgender advocacy have come out of the closet. These topics are not promoted as a class but are interwoven throughout academic curriculums, making it more challenging to identify and address.

As parents, it is our responsibility to be vigilant and aware of the content being taught to our children. We believe that academic institutions should prioritize the core subject that are crucial for our children to receive to develop a strong foundation prepare them for future success.

Background Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) - Basically, SEL focuses on emotional and social aspects, limiting the overall scope of education by suppressing traditional academic subjects that are essential for a well-rounded education.

For those of you who might not yet be acquainted with the current state of curriculum programs in our public and many private schools, it's worth noting that the traditional academic emphasis has hijacked and undergone a significant transformation with the introduction of Social Emotional Learning (SEL).  Hillsborough Program- 7 Mindsets Cirriculum

3/06/23 Pornography books are in media centers, libraries and part of the curriculum in Florida.  LINK TO VIDEO (WARNING NOT FOR CHILDREN) ... ALL ARE IN HILLSBOROUGH. Shown at the DeSantis press conference.  The media promotes this as book banning the truth is these pornography and highly suggestive books should never be in any public library.  All children need to be protects.   

Sex Education:

Detailed Background: In September of 2022 a new Sexual Health Education curriculum was approved by the Hillsborough School Board for 7th, 8th and 9th graders.

• Public notice required by Florida statute were not fulfilled.
• Public hearing was not held as required before school board meeting in September.
• At the School board meeting parents of those parents who found out about the meeting’s sex education agenda the majority of parents spoke out in opposition of the curriculum, yet it passed.
• October over 3000 petitions opposing what the school board had approved were filed.  Link to Petition
• November Judge Isem (handpicked by school board & staff) held a hearing
• Curriculum is not being taught as required by Florida Statues.

Issues: The current Sexual Health Education is an assortment of several programs. (Picking and choosing parts of a curriculum while ignoring other sections)  This type of curriculum is confusing and sends mixed messages to students about their bodies and what sexual health means. Most importantly it is not only encouraging children to have sex but showing them many methods of having sex even with the same gender and how to please each other.  Florida does not mandate sex or HIV/AIDS education, but it does mandate comprehensive health education.  Which for grades 6-12 includes the benefits of sexual abstinence and marriage. 

Major focus of Hillsborough’s Program:

• Sexual Risk Reduction (SRR), often called “comprehensive” sex education is primarily focused on increasing contraceptive use among teens. The SRR approach normalizes teen sex. Many of the scenarios are college students, abstinence after discussing pregnancy, contraception, and STDs.
  • Many of the resources and external links are graphic and not age appropriate (even for adults). TeenConnectTampaBay.com (no longer on line) and Amaze.org
  • Discusses assigned sex at birth, after sex morning pill,
  • Taught without segregating males and females.
  • Opt-out form is vague and neglects to mention program
• While 9 pages of information and 10 pages of games at the end of the curriculum focuses on abstinence which is a  “Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) Program" that teach the skills of the Success Sequence, which dramatically reduce the chance that youth will live in poverty as adults, if they implement, in sequence, these things: finish school, get a job, and then have children after marriage. If teens adopt these behaviors, they risk only a 2% chance of living in poverty as adults.”  Excellent website not mentioned in curriculum- Weasend.org

The CDC numbers are showing that teens are avoiding sex so why are our schools teaching our children how to have sex. The past 10 years children under the age of 13 having engaged in sex has decreased from 9.1% to 3.8%.   We should not be teaching ‘safe sex’ to the 3.8% but teaching abstinence to the 96.2%.

Goal: To ensure students are taught age appropriate, evidence-based sex education curriculums that provide information and resources that align with Florida statutes. Parents have full access to these curriculums and a voice in approving these curriculums.  

 Questions & Answers:

• Are comprehensive sex education programs effective?  If so, why are 50% of all new STD infections occurring among 15–24-year-old students. (CDC)
• Aren’t most STDs treatable? No, not all STDs are curable and many show no signs and symptoms. Only way to prevent STDs is to avoid sexual behavior.  HIV is not curable, Hepatitis B effects 1% of the US Population, often unaware, 100 times more infectious than HIV.
• What difference does it make how many sexual partners a person has if they use protection?  The more sexual partners a person has the greater the chance of  STDs, pregnancy, parenthood, and abortion.  Children are not mentally or physically prepared for any of these consequences. Many have lifelong long-term impacts. 
• Won’t the teen pregnancy rate increase if we stop teaching contraceptive-based sex education programs?  No, teen pregnancy rates have dramatically decreased when funding for ‘safe sex’ and free birth control have been terminated.  

• What is the impact of teens becoming parents? 
  • Increase rates High School Dropout:
  • Only about 50% of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age, whereas approximately 90% of women who do not give birth during adolescence graduate from high school.
  • Teen fathers have a 25//30% lower probability of graduating from high school.
  • Increase in Mental Health issues: Depression, Substance Abuse, PTSD, Increase risk of living in poverty, being a single parent, living in an abuse relationship

Our children are being exploited. We as a community are called to protect our children.  Now that you are aware of this situation, please speak up.  We need to have our concerns and voices heard, AND LOUDLY.

The current sex education curriculum in Hillsborough and many other counties throughout our nation not only encourages sex put provides information to include explicit pictures of a variety of sexual activities with multiple relationship options. Normalizing teen sex is detrimental to our children, their families, and our community.

Whether you have children in the public schools or grown children it is important to engage with the school board.  What children learn in school impacts us all today and beyond.

Public education,  What are they teaching our children? - How to have a healthy relationship or how to be a porn star?   Our country's liberal view on sexual relationships of all kinds has infiltrated our schools.   Children's minds are being bombarded with confusing topics that make developing a health relationship and waiting to have a sexual relationship until adulthood nearly impossible.

• Briefly mentions abstaining from sex - two sentences before discussing 16 pages of contraception with college scenarios as topics to discuss.
