2018 Hillsborough Sales Tax Referendum Background

2018  Hillsborough Referendums - If these referendums pass Hillsborough will have the highest sales tax in the state which means local businesses will suffer as people choose to go to other counties to make purchases.

#2 Referendum  VOTE NO -  - Funding for Countywide Transportation...ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ARE NOT NECESSARILY REPAIRS  for more information Fix Our Roads First

  • 1% surtax equates to $16B over 30 years (A 30 year payment plan for a 20 year project... bad investment.)
  • The road improvements are actually converting roads to "Complete Streets" which usually entails narrowing the auto lanes, lowering the speed limit, and adding a bike lane. It also includes diesel rail from downtown to USF (very similar to Orlando's Sunrail where local/state tax subsidies are $64 per daily commuter), extending the streetcar, and rail to the airport.
  •  The tax plan calls for 450 miles of taking one or two lanes of traffic to build a pedestrian sanctuary at the crosswalk and bus  and/or bike lane use only. NO EXPANSION OF ROADWAYS are included where this reduction takes place.  (Fixed Guide Ways)
  • 45% shall be distributed to HART
  • Independent Oversight Committee members shall serve terms of three (3) years, without compensation, and each shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing body- what does this mean?
  • Full Text Referendum

Contributors to get this referendum and tax increase were Vinik, Morsani, Skyes, Tampa Bay Partners (again Chuck Sykes & Vinik), Coastal Constructions Services (Vinik)... sounds like Vinik wants taxpayers to fund his planned road system for Channelside for the next 30 years.
