  • How is it that so many of even our Cardinals, Vatican officials, bishops and priests are cowardly, tolerant, and almost completely silent regarding such absolutely despicable public evils as “legal” abortion and the deliberate killing of the weak, elderly and infirm?“Naturalism is more than a heresy: it is pure undiluted anti-Christianism.
  • Many men and women have joined the ranks of abortionists and “mercy killing” by an explicit choice to become followers of the devil. Others, however, have lost their way by default, or ignorance, or unbridled passions and/or through false loyalties: “My country, my race, my social class, my favorite leader, etc. – right or wrong!”
  • Let us not fall into the error of these men and women who, by their blameworthy ignorance or by their sinful inaction, will be condemned to hell for their indifference and betrayal. Remember, all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for “good” men to do nothing.
  • We thus live in a society wherein laws are established – such as abortion and the increasing acceptance of euthanasia – that are based merely on the human will – what I want, what is convenient to me, what is of utilitarian advantage – and take no account of God and His eternal law.
  • The “problem”, however, is there are too many people who believe in the old Christian ethic that killing the innocent is always wrong. The old ethic is being replaced by the so-called “new ethic” that places a relative value on human life, rather than an absolute value. In other words, a new “ethic” that favors the direct killing of the innocent based on “quality of life,” on whether or not an innocent baby is wanted by the mother.
  • The New Paganism, otherwise known as the forces of Organized Naturalism, are constantly working to degrade human life, and to destroy human life, in the name of social engineering and population control. This anti-life program holds that human life does not have value in itself, but only a contingent value based on its Quality of Life (in the case of the sick and the elderly), or based on whether that human life is wanted (as is the case of mothers aborting their babies). If a human life is deemed “not worth living”, it can be destroyed.
  • California Medicine: The editorial says – again, 1970 – that if the abortion movement is to succeed, it is necessary to separate the notion of abortion from the notion of killing. This is a strategy that has been used, and it has worked.
  • But abortion is not an issue of a woman’s choice, it is an issue of killing the most innocent and defenseless, the baby in her womb. “Pro-choice” is a term we should never use, whether in writing, in public speeches, in conversation. It is the enemy’s terminology that shifts the emphasis away from what we are really dealing with: willful murder, which is one of the four sins crying to Heaven for vengeance.
  • Obama rescinded the Mexico City policy – a 1984 directive by the Reagan Administration that prohibited certain federal dollars from going to international organizations that promote or perform abortions as a method of family planning.
  • President Obama also signaled in 2009 that he would restore funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The U.S. has since sent tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to the organization, despite continued assertions that UNFPA has been involved in China’s coercive one-child policy.
  • In 2008, the United States elected the most pro-abortion Senator in the country’s history, who went on to become the most pro-abortion President in U.S. History, Barack Obama. Obama is a man beholden to the abortion lobby, beholden to Planned Parenthood, beholden to the homosexual lobby. In fact, the Hemlock Society – the pro-euthanasia group – had a hand in crafting part of Barack Obama’s health care legislation.
  • Also in the United Kingdom, a so-called “charity” group called “Compassion for Dying” has set up a “how to die” telephone helpline to help people learn how to kill themselves. BEWARE OF SEX EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
  • The BBC and Rwanda news outlets report that the Rwandan government is introducing the campaign “on the heels of a large-scale effort to circumcise men”
  • On February 13, 2014, once-Catholic Belgium became the first country on earth to approve of euthanasia for children of all ages. LifesiteNews reported: “The law extends to those under the age of 18 who request euthanasia with parental consent. (see more on euthanasia)
  • This collapse in true Catholic teaching was a direct result of the liberal revolution that followed the Second Vatican Council, which caused a breakdown in doctrine, moral teaching, and in Church discipline, to the point where we end up with the modernist moral theologians:
  • We don't live in a culture of death but "what we live in now is a culture of “murder” – abortion, sterilization, euthanasia and suicide – which is the result of naturalism that has no place for God; and of the New Paganism that has no respect for what our Fathers taught us."
  • In recent decades, a mother’s womb became one of the most dangerous places on earth. Today, hospitals and nursing homes are becoming equally dangerous. Tomorrow, a trip to the doctor’s office may prove to be a deadly mistake.

Force Abortion, Lose Federal Funds
  • It’s been a problem since 2014. That’s when California’s health department started strong-arming employers into covering abortion on their insurance exchange.
  • “Wait just a second,” churches complained, “that’s a violation of federal law.” Under the Weldon Amendment, health care entities can’t be punished for refusing to cover abortion.
  • As Secretary Azar himself said, "We're a department that, like President Trump, is committed to protecting life from the moment of conception through natural death, which means, in my mind, we're the Department of Life." Like most Americans, this administration understands that abortion isn't health care. And we can think of no better way of celebrating the March for Life than making sure states know it!

50 Year Anniversary of Novus Ordo!

From the Pastor: 50 Year Anniversary of Novus Ordo!
Bulletin article, December 1

Fifty years ago, on the First Sunday of Advent in 1969, everything changed. It was on that fateful day when the New Order of Mass (Novus Ordo in Latin) was mandated to be celebrated throughout the world. In the Church, as in the world, we like to celebrate anniversaries. 50 years is always considered a very special anniversary. But I don’t see any celebrations, large or small, for the Novus Ordo Mass. There has been no special promulgation, no encyclical written, no apostolic letter sent out, nor even diocesan luncheons. There has been nothing but silence. Why? Why would the Church leaders remain close-mouthed about something that greatly affected every single Catholic and indirectly, at least, every non-Catholic? Why, when the Novus Ordo Mass is constantly promoted as the greatest thing since sliced bread, aren’t we witnessing great processions through the streets of Rome, huge diocesan Masses with the bishops rallying all of their priests, or even individual pastors celebrating special Masses anywhere in the world? I think it is pretty obvious. Because, no matter what “everybody” says, the Novus Ordo Mass has been a failed experiment and celebrating it would put the focus where “they” don’t want it to be.

Let me sidetrack for just a moment. I constantly hear from priests that I should never say that one Form of Mass is better than the other. They give this command even though I generally don’t tell my fellow priests that I am thoroughly convinced that the Traditional Latin Mass is much more efficacious and far more pleasing to God than the Novus Ordo Mass. I don’t have to tell them. They know, just from the way I speak about my parish and what we do and why we exist, what I believe. And they don’t want to hear it. So they tell me that a Mass is a Mass is a Mass and that the Form I celebrate (most of the time, anyway) is not any better or worse than the Form they celebrate. The funny thing is, though, that they don’t believe what they say. They believe that the Novus Ordo Mass is much superior to the Traditional Latin Mass. How do I know? Because they won’t even attempt to celebrate the TLM. Most look at it with contempt and even the most “open-minded” see it as a quaint relic of days before the Novus Ordo Enlightenment. Once that line of communication is open, though, I sometimes have the opportunity to put a bug in their ear about why I believe what I believe. The people don’t know Latin! So what? My parishioners know that the Mass isn’t a dinner party (we need more food and drink if it is) but is, rather, the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who took on our human nature, perfectly offering Himself to the Father in an unbloody way just as He did in a bloody manner two thousand years ago. The same sacrifice. Even those who cannot read or hear or see can enter into that sacrifice! But what about the little old ladies praying their rosary? Isn’t that showing that they don’t know what is happening? Strange that you don’t realize that the Mass is presenting to us the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Our Lord and that the little old ladies are meditating on the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Our Lord as they pray the rosary! But the people don’t get to have full, active, and conscious participation since the priest reads all of the readings, prays all of the prayers, and distributes Holy Communion himself! 97% of your Novus Ordo Mass parishioners aren’t lectors or EMHCs, either, you idiot! (I sometimes lack perfect charity.) But certainly, you must admit that the 2 and 3 year cycle of readings is much better than hearing the same old thing year after year. And it certainly makes it easier to preach when the content is always new. No, I don’t admit to any such thing. The Mass is not a Bible study. If it is, it is a poorly designed class. After 50 years of the new lectionary, are Catholics really better Bible scholars? Are the priests really better preachers? Rhetorical questions, obviously. The TLM converted the world from paganism. Under the NOM paganism is regaining its prior stronghold and nothingism is battling for prominence.

That brings us back to why there are no celebrations. Statistics show quite clearly that millions of people left the Church when the NOM was forced upon them. Many who stayed and most of those who grew up in the new Mass don’t believe in even the core teachings. Only 30% of active(!) NOM Catholics believe that the Eucharist is really, truly and substantially Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. 98% of TLM Catholics believe. No, there is nothing to celebrate and “they” would look foolish if they tried. True faith has collapsed, religious life is decimated, pews are empty, vocations have tanked, and marriage and other sacraments are mocked or ignored. There is absolutely no statistical proof that in the past 50 years the Catholic Faith is stronger, more widespread, better practiced, or changing the world for the better. A celebration of a failed venture might open people’s eyes to the disastrous results, and the 50 year old NOM mantra “old is bad, new is great” would be seen for what it is. So they tell me, “Don’t rock the boat. Let sleeping dogs lie. Ignorance is bliss.” What would the prophet Ezekiel say? Jeremiah? The Apostles?

With prayers for your holiness,
Rev. Fr. Edwin Palka

Can a Catholic Be Pro-Choice

Some people will claim that they are not for abortion…they are merely for “choice”. Let’s bring more clarity to the term “Pro-choice”. It is used because it implies an association with freedom and liberty. But it is a smoke-screen. It means “pro-abortion”. Now, someone could say, “No it doesn’t. It simply means that I do not think it is right to take away a woman’s right to choose what to do with her pregnancy”. Two things about that. First, the “what to do” only has to do with killing her baby. The “choice” is between allowing the baby to live and actively taking steps to end the child’s life. Second, “what to do with her pregnancy” is another misleading phrase. It implies that she is the only person involved. It entirely neglects the fact that this also involves the life of an innocent child.

Restoring Confidence in the Catholic Faith

If priests cannot be chaste in celibacy, how can we expect our young men to grow in chastity as they prepare for marriage?

For example, when priests live their celibacy with confidence, they provide an example to young men who are required to be chaste in their own celibate state before they marry. Clerical violations of celibacy not only encourage secular commentators like Rush Limbaugh to question its value for priests, they undermine the resolve of men struggling to overcome addictions to pornography.

In my parish, I have been methodical in my strategy in dealing with the doctrinal ambiguities of the Vatican.  The pope’s picture hangs in the church vestibule to remind the faithful to pray for him.  But it is safer as a matter of clarity never to quote the Holy Father.

Bishops admit they knew Cardinal McCarrick was an abuser but stayed silent

June 28, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Now-disgraced retired cardinal of Washington, DC Theodore McCarrick was permitted to live out his role as a bishop over the past thirty years despite the fact that some bishops knew him to be guilty of sexually abusing seminarians.

Since this past week’s McCarrick revelations by the Archdioceses of New York and Newark, that McCarrick was found to have credible allegations of sexual predation against a minor, and two adult males, there can be little doubt that the American hierarchy was aware of allegations of his past salacious and sexually exploitative misconduct.

Why didn’t Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the present Archbishop of Washington, D.C. restrict McCarrick’s access to young males and altar boys while residing in his Archdiocese? After all, Wuerl is the spiritual shepherd of the diocese and has authority over the care and protection of his spiritual flock.

The emphasis behind “safe environment” programs is not toward protecting children or, heaven forbid, rooting out sex abusers in our midst.

“Safe environment” programs ignore the real problem—homosexual predator bishops and priests—and direct their suspicions elsewhere. Although it was found that the majority of clerical abuse cases were homosexual in nature, the Dallas Charter did nothing to address this pink elephant in the room.

If bishops were serious about stamping out abuse, they would look at the actual cause instead of just doing the minimum that lawyers require. What is the actual cause? In most cases it is the extensive homosexual network found in seminaries and chanceries, which allow homosexual men to rise through the ranks (including to the episcopacy) without resistance. Are these really the men who will be best suited to prevent future abuse? Is their judgement about “talking about touching” programs and “safe environment” guidelines reliable?

Abortion: U.S. Taxpayers Fund It Here and Abroad

Roe v. Wade, which marks its 40th anniversary this week, created a host of new conflicts for life and conscience and did nothing to resolve cultural and political debates around the issue—including debates around the funding of abortion.

Each year, the federal government entangles taxpayers in the abortion business, and under Obamacare even more funds—private as well as public—will flow to abortion services.

Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood

Even though the organization boasts the title of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood has ridden the waves of taxpayer funding to millions of dollars in annual surpluses. In 2011 alone, Planned Parenthood received over $542 million in taxpayer funding while performing a record 333,964 abortions. According to analysis by the Susan B. Anthony List, Planned Parenthood has performed almost 1 million abortions in the past three reporting years alone.

Exporting Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

In January 2009, President Obama rescinded the Mexico City policy—a 1984 directive by the Reagan Administration that prohibited certain federal dollars from going to international organizations that promote or perform abortions as a method of family planning. Since then, the U.S. has sent millions of taxpayer dollars to international abortion providers and lobbyists each year.

President Obama also signaled in 2009 that he would restore funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The U.S. has since sent tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to the organization, despite continued assertions that UNFPA has been involved in China’s coercive one-child policy. For years prior, the U.S. withheld funding to UNFPA under the Kemp–Kasten amendment, which prohibits U.S. international aid from supporting coercive abortion procedures or involuntary sterilization.

Obamacare’s Abortion Surcharge

Beginning in 2014, individuals forced to purchase health insurance under Obamacare’s individual mandate will look to state exchanges to purchase qualified health plans and avoid federal fines. States are able to bar insurance plans that cover elective abortion from participating in their exchanges. But so far, only 16 states have passed such laws.

For the rest, the Obama Administration has mandated that all individuals enrolled in a state exchange health plan that includes coverage of elective abortion pay an abortion surcharge—out of their own pockets—solely for the purpose of covering elective abortions.

Obamacare’s Anti-Conscience Mandate

Obamacare’s preventative services mandate is currently forcing employers to pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs and contraception, regardless of moral or religious objections. The mandated coverage includes drugs such as the “week-after” pill, ella, which some believe can cause an abortion in early pregnancy. Employers are now faced with an impossible decision to either violate their conscience by paying for life-ending drugs or face onerous government fines for non-compliance.

The Declaration of Independence affirms life among humanity’s “unalienable Rights.” This most basic human freedom should be respected in public policy both on domestic and international fronts. Internationally, Congress can bypass the perennial tug-of-war over the Mexico City policy by making it permanent. Domestically, policymakers would do well to end taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood and close the seams in the patchwork of existing domestic federal funding prohibitions by making them permanent. They can start by repealing Obamacare and replacing it with true health care reform that protects conscience and respects life.

Minnesota Catholic Conference statement concerning Sept. 12 “Catholics for Choice” national ad campaign

The recent full-page advertisement in the Star Tribune, paid for by a national group calling themselves “Catholics for Choice,” woefully misrepresents the noble Catholic social justice tradition. By calling for public funding of abortion, “Catholics for Choice” disregards the need to defend vulnerable human life in all its stages—a principle at the core of authentic social justice.
If there is a desire to help a woman in need who is facing an unplanned pregnancy, the solution as a society is to provide her with the resources and support she needs to care for her child—not help her dispose of it. Pope Francis has repeatedly condemned such a mentality as part of the throwaway culture that attacks the dignity of the weak and vulnerable because they seem inconvenient and make a claim upon our care and resources.

The Catholic Thing

The Catholic thing – the concrete historical reality of Catholicism – is the richest cultural tradition in the world. It was born from Judaism and, through that spiritual parentage, even reaches back into the great ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia. In its early days, it confronted, absorbed, and redirected what was then the most sophisticated society in existence, Greco-Roman culture. When that culture fell, Catholicism preserved what it could and rebuilt the rest over centuries, incorporating new influences from Northern Europe and, during the great age of exploration, from the entire globe. Today, it numbers over a billion souls on every continent. Despite its all-too-human imperfections, there is simply nothing like it.

“Redefining” Marriage?

In the current debate over gay marriage, people sometimes ask:Who should define marriage? Democrats or Republicans in Congress? The Supreme Court? Should it be put to a referendum, allowing the majority to choose a definition? We can identify two kinds of “definitions” when it comes to marriage. The first touches on the essence, the objective reality, or the truth about marriage. The second involves a legal or political position, advanced through the media, judicial decisions, or other legislative means. While these secondary definitions of marriage can be of interest, their true level of importance is properly gauged only in reference to the first and objective definition.
